Batman’s new squeeze?

It’s unavoidable, every superhero has to have a super lady; it’s classic. Clark Kent has Louis Lane, Reed Richards has Sue Storm, Bruce Wayne has Selina Kyle, and now Dick Grayson has…a yellow alien?

Batman (Dick Grayson) and Starfire

Batman (Dick Grayson) and Starfire

DC’s The Source posted this preview sketch and is hoping to stir up some discussion. Dick Grayson and Starfire have been on-again off-again romantics for quite some time, even coming close to getting married (and in the Kingdom Come story even had a child), so this kind of preview comes with very little surprise. Two thoughts come to mind though:

#1. Who’s story does this happen in? Is this a Judd Winick, Paul Dini, or Grant Morrison creation? The art looks like Mark Bagley’s (which would be Winick) but if it’s a cover or variant it could belong to anyone. For now, my guess is Winick.

#2. Somewhere out there Barbara Gordon is broken hearted. I’ve always pictured Barbara and Dick as the perfect couple; the daughter of Gordon and ward of Bruce Wayne…Batgirl and Robin…two young crime fighters…just made sense. And I hope I don’t come across as a weirdo but her being a little more vulnerable via the wheelchair, and the idea of him having to protect her despite her past abilities, made it all the sweeter to me. But Dick Grayson couldn’t resist the revealing and busty yellow alien (I mean, who could?). And we shouldn’t forget that it was right after the events of Infinite Crisis that Dick Grayson finally popped the question and Barbara said yes! Course, then the whole superhero thing got in the way, and here we are. Batman has always been a little confused when it came to the ladies, never picking one and setteling down, and it would seem that Grayson will fill in those shoes perfectly. Should he go with his first love and I guess techical fiance, or the more “experienced” body-that-could kill Starfire?

I don’t watch Gossip Girl and have learned to hate Kate anytime she shows up in an episode of LOST but the idea of a Grayson, Starfire, and Barbara love triangle perks my interest; we’ve got a new Batman but all the old baggage is still there . It will be interesting to see how the love triangle turns out, how it affects Dick’s work, what Alfred has to say about it, and how the two ladies fight for their man.

Babs, I’m rooting for yah!

Now this is an interesting development. For the last several years it seems like Barbara
was the main love interest and Starfire the girl on the side for whenever things weren’t working out with Barbara. This always annoyed me because Kory seemed to be perfectly OK with being the backup. I would personally like to see Dick’s relationship with Kory explored a little deeper than it has been and I hope this is a good sign of that wish being fulfilled.

  2. True. I’m hoping the Kory and Dick relationship gets a little deeper too but I can’t help rooting for Barbara in the end. Something tells me Kory could find another man.

I completely agree. Its just that I’d like to see Kory actually move on. I realize that she and Dick wi have a long standing friendship, but at some point she needs to stand up for herself and start her own path.

    • Yeah, she seems really independent in every area except Dick Grayson. We’ll see. I mean if Dick stays faithful to Barbara it will be interesting to see how Starfire reacts.

Ugh. I have never thought Dick and Kory worked well. Not to mention a really not good plan if he’s trying to keep up the “Batman is alive” illusion.

“Hmm… no one’s seen Nightwing in a while now.. now Batman is kissing Starfire… hey, didn’t Nightwing and Starfire used to date?”

This is the 1st page of Titans #16. I guess Starfire has a major rage problem and isn’t over the break up between her and Dick, back in the early Titans issues here’s the guys link who is doing the artwork for Titans 16 an 17…
