Batman: Prodigal Review
Batman: Prodigal; written by Chuck Dixon, Doug Moench, and Alan Grant. Art work is done by many artist. Trade Paper Cover Artist Tom Grummett and Scott McDaniel.
With what is happening in Batman, and his world, I thought I should do a review on Dick Grayson’s early run as Batman back in the 90’s.
Batman: Prodigal takes place immediately after Knights End. Bruce Wayne leaves Gotham City to re establish himself, and leaves his former partner the prodigal son Dick Grayson in charge as Batman and the protector of Gotham City until Bruce’s completely ready to return as Batman. The villains that are featured in the storyline are Two Face, Ventriloquist, Ratcatcher, Tally Man, and Killer Croc. Dick Grayson struggles through out the entire story is not to fail as Batman like he’s done in the past as Robin, College, and Leader of the Teen Titans. In the beginning of the story Dick has doubts becoming Batman, but after his battle with Two Face, he becomes very comfortable as Batman, at least until Bruce returns. Dick Grayson tries to fool Gordon like Jean Paul Valley did as Batman, but it didn’t work, and Gordon thoughts towards him are ugly because he’s not the man he trusted. Chuck Dixon has done a outstanding job with Batman and his world and he does a beautiful job writing Dick and Bruce’s reconcile scene very well, in the conclusion of Prodigal. The art work is obviously very 90’s but the story telling between the three writers who wrote Prodigal is very well written. My two favorite stories from Prodigal are the Two Face storyline, and the conclusion to Prodigal called Wing over Gotham. Hopefully when DC Comics reprint the trade someday I recommend comic book readers to collect it. The stories are very fun to read. I give Batman Prodigal 9/10
Few Notes
Since Nightwing Year One doesn’t come out until years later. Its suppose to be Dick Grayson first time fighting in Gotham City since he left as Robin, and his first time going up against Killer Croc, Ratcatcher,Ventriloquist, and Tally Man.
In Prodigal Dick Grayson is pretending to be Bruce Wayne as Batman compare to what he’s doing now in Batman Reborn.
Two things are establish in Prodigal. The Brother relationship between Dick and Tim. The second is Bruce and Dick finally reconcile their past differences and become a father and son again.
