Green Lantern News From Emerald City Comic Con 2010
Emerald City Comic Con
Well today at ECCC ’10 featured a Green Lantern panel with Eddie Berganza, Geoff Johns, Peter Tomasi, Patrick Gleason and Doug Mahnke talking all things Green Lantern in 2010 here are some of the highlights along with my own personal commentary:
- All the New Guardians will remain on Earth Post-Blackest Night, which makes for exciting events in Hal Jordan’s life.
We knew this the second next months solicitations came out, and I really hope the upcoming storyline in GL will stand up to the hype.
- Larfleeze will soon be getting a house and a boat during his stay on Earth. Also, after hearing about Santa Clause, he decides to hunt him down, aka a Larfleeze Christmas Special, and he also steals the Eiffel Tower.
Geoff Johns has stated before that Larfleeze is becoming one of his favorite characters, which means this comes as no surprise to me. It sound’s like Hal’s going to have to act as a babysitter to Larfleeze until he leaves Earth, whenever that may be.
- We’ll see much more of Sector 2814 in GL soon and Xudar will make appearances.
This is refreshing, considering Johns’ run on GL has had barely any interaction with Sector 2814, and Xudar is sure to make for a good story.
- Atrocitus will try to put the mack on Mera, but she’ll cock-block him.
This is kind of a surprise, but it makes sense. Once BN is over and Mera’s back to normal, I doubt she’d even think about hooking up with the lava spitting alien.
- Carol and Diana will be buddies Post-BN.
Judging by their interactions so far in BN, this isn’t much of a surprise. They compliment each other nicely and I must say, the art they appear in is just GREAT!
- Geoff said he’d think about Hal having adventures in the 58th century like back in the day when asked by Mark Waid.
This is simply awesome, providing it ever happens. I would love to see GL take a step away from the stuff going on lately and focus on something completely different.
- Eddie Berganza wanted to make Kyle a Blue Lantern but the creators didn’t.
Many fans also wanted to see this, and it would have made sense to me, but the fact that it didn’t happen is a lot more reassuring. I have too many questions thus far in BN, and this would only add to that.
- The rest of the 10 laws will be revealed soon.
Finally. This makes me wonder though, does this mean the Guardians of The Universe will return or will the New Guardians take over and create new laws?
- The JSA will make another appearance on Smallville this season, but no GL will make an appearance.
I’m glad The JSA will appear again, but no GL just sucks. As CCO, it’s not like Geoff couldn’t make it happen.
- Turns out GLC’s planned Co-Feature has been scrapped. The plan was to have a “Tales of The GLC” mini-anthology but Geoff vetoed it.
This would have been an awesome feature, it just sucks Geoff didn’t like it.
- Emerald Warriors won’t be Guy Gardner-centric and it will be more of a wide cast of characters.
This is refreshing because it means we’ll see more of the GL’s from the other sectors of the universe.
- The long-anticipated Lobo Vs. Atrocitus fight will come in Brightest Day.
This is sure to be a great fight with at least one amazing splash page.
- When asked if we’ll see a break from big events and go back to one issue stories, Geoff said “No. I like big events”.
This makes me skeptical because after SCW and BN, I could use a year or two of just stories without a crossover title looming over it.
- Geoff says he plans to be on GL for at least 5 more years.
While I like Geoff on GL, I don’t know if 5 more years is the right idea. Sure, another year or 3 but 5? I just don’t know if Geoff can keep up the work he’s been doing.
- GLC #46 will feature Alex DeWitt (Kyle’s girlfriend when he recieved the ring) as a Black Lantern, and she will be inside a refrigerator, just like when she died.
Wow. I had wondered why no appearance from the infamous girlfriend in a fridge, and I can’t wait to see Kyle’s reaction to her showing up.
This all sound’s fine and dandy, and I can’t wait to see what Geoff has in-store for all of us.

Any news about Saint Walker + Flash I / Indigo-1 + Atom post BN?
No news about them, but I’m sure Flash and Atom will return to their regular roles while Saint Walker and Indigo do their own thing.
Alex Dewitt BL inside a refrigerator
now thats an interesting idea
i dont know if its good or bad but its surely interesting
GLC hit’s stands this wednesday, so be ready for some refrigerated fun!
The response when this page was shown on the screen was a mix of groans, chuckles and gasps. It will be interresting to see how it plays out within the context of the story.
Maybe it’s just me, but the whole thing about Larfeeze getting a boat, a house, the Eifel Tower, a Christmas Special, etc. sounded a bit tongue-in-cheek… almost like the panel was just sort of joking around with the crowd.
It fits with the character, though, so we’ll see what happens.
With Larfleeze realizing Earth is worth saving in GL 51, none of this seems to far-fetched. I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the coming months though…..
One thing that was not mentioned in any of the articles I’ve read about this panel was the fact that the GL team were all really great guys.
Yes, this might sound to some like I’m sucking up, but hear me out.
During the Q&A session, a fan said he’d driven for 2 hours to get Geoff’s autograph, but had missed his chance earlier in the day (Johns was not going to be doing any signings after the panel on Saturday). Without hesitation, Geoff responded “Well, xcome on up” and signed the guy’s books on the spot. (There were a few people who tried to jump up in line after this fan and Geoff reminded them that this was not an autograph session.) I happened to miss the oportunity to get Geoff’s autograph, but saw him literally as he was leaving the signing booth on the second day. I managed to get his attention and asked for a few seconds of his time to get a photo of him with my 7 year-old daughter (she had wanted to meet the GL team more than Stan Lee or anyone else there.) Again, without hesitation, he took the time for the fans- free of charge (unlike “The Man” from Marvel).During the actual autograph sessions, Peter Tomasi, Doug Mahnke and Pat Gleason were in good spirits and interactive with the fans.
There were copies of Blackest Night #0 on the signing table which were being given out for signatures, and even in the waning hours of the convention (when they were obviously very tired), all of the guys came across as very personable.
Well now you’re just making me jealous…lol
Like I said, I didn’t get an autograph, so don’t be TOO jealous…lol
In other words, I should still be jealous.lol
