By The Numbers: Batman December Solicitations

Breaking Down Batman in December

The December solicitations for Batman titles was recently released via DC’s The Source and it’s just another example of how Wolverine and Deadpool-ish Batman is getting. I’m as big of a Batman fan there is, there can never be enough Batman. Or can there? Regardless it’s interesting – and annoying – to look at what DC is expecting it’s customers to shell out each month. Of course, this is assuming these titles will actually come out it in December, which is saying a lot based on DC’s trend as of late.

Total number of Batman-related books in December: 19

Total price if you picked up all those books: $69.81

Add tax (say 7%): $74.70

In-continuity Bat titles you’ll need to keep up with JUST Batman (be that Dick or Bruce):

  • Batman Inc #2 – $3.99
  • Batman: The Dark Knight #2 – $3.99
  • Batman #705 – $2.99
  • Detective Comics #872 – $3.99
  • Detective Comics Annual #12 – $4.99
  • Batman Annual #28 – $4.99
  • Batman and Robin #18 – $2.99

Total Price: $27.93

With Tax: $29.89

Out-of-continuity Batman titles, but still Bruce:

  • Batman: Orphans #1-2 – $3.99 each
  • Batman: Odyssey #6 – $3.99
  • Batman Confidential #51 – $2.99
  • Batman 80-Page Giant 2010 #1 – $5.99

Total Price: $16.96

With Tax: $18.15

Give me everything where Bruce/Batman will appear:

Added Birds of Prey#7 and Azrael #15 where Batman is on the cover and in the solicits

13 titles

Total Price: $50.87

With Tax: $54.43

In defense of DC, December is always a big month and there are 2 annuals plus an 80-pager coming out which aren’t monthly. Still, better hope Grandma shows up big this Christmas if I’m going to be able to afford all the Bat-books I want. Course…I can always put off those dental fillings and new car tires I need.

  1. Meanwhile, the one title that actually stars Superman won’t be featuring him in October, running a filler issue about Lois instead.

“Great time to be a Supes fan,” he said sarcastically.
