5 Geeky Things To Do With Your Honey On Valentine’s Day

It’s that day again.  It comes every February 14th, and there’s no escaping it.  Yup, Valentine’s Day is here.  I’ve never been a fan of the holiday even when I had someone to share it with.  I suppose it’s a nice gesture to take your significant other out to dinner or buy them flowers, but isn’t it always nice to do that?  I’m not sure guys need an extra day to remember after kids’ birthdays, wedding anniversary, the anniversary of your first date, birthday, etc. on the calendar to potentially get into a fight with their loved ones over.

5 Geeky Ways To Spend Valentine’s Day

It never fails, though.  Eventually, you will have to celebrate the 14th of February with someone special in your life.  But what happens if you’re a geek?  Can this day be celebrated by both the classic romantic AND the comic book fan?  Why, yes it can ladies and gents!  Here are some ideas on how to “spice up” the next Valentine’s Day for you and that special geek in your life!

5. Track down someone who can make the flower seen in Batman Begins

If you remember, in Batman Begins, Bruce Wayne is told to find a particular flower in the Himalayas and present it to the door man of Ra’s Al Ghul’s fortress to gain admittance so he can learn how to properly channel his revenge on the criminal world.  Turns out, it’s a cross-breed of two particular flowers – the Blue Thistle and the Blue Anemone.  If it is indeed a true cross-breed, or at least possible to create, what better flower for a comic fan to give and/or receive?  Let’s not get too excited, though…  If these flowers can be cross-bred, I’m sure the process drives up the price of the flower itself.  So, if you have a good paying job, or REALLY like that special someone, you best bring your wallet when you hit the flower shop.  Can you really put a price on the expression you’ll see on that person’s face when he/she finds out exactly what that flower is from?

4. Spend the evening watching The Big Bang Theory

There’s no denying it – CBS’ nerdy sitcom, The Big Bang Theory, is a hit.  It’s not just those who identify with the guys that are loving the show.  It’s a big hit with several others, including women.  Why?  Well, guys, you know how that girl you’ve always been in love with looks at you and says, “I wish I could find a nice guy like you.” right before going out with a total dipwad?  The ladies, deep down, really like nice, sweet guys.  I used to never admit that, but it’s true.  So, girls like the guys on this show for all their quirks and silliness.  For guys, you’ll usually see a lot of Penny (played by they very cute Kaley Cuoco), or a bevy of very attractive guest stars that become the focus of one or more of the characters.  Also, you get a lot of Star Trek, Star Wars, and comic book references.  Whether you’re the girl who loves the guys for their quirks, or the geek who love the references and identify with, there’s an undeniable sweet chemistry between Cuoco’s Penny and Johnny Galecki’s Leonard.  That’s something you can watch for hours while cuddled with your sweetie on the couch.

3. Go to a comic shop & buy matching items for each other

With industries geared for comic, sci-fi, and gaming fans finally breaking through to the fairer sex, it’s not hard to find items at a comic shop that would appeal to both genders.  You can always get matching Superman shirts, or a Batman and Batgirl set of shirts, but the real romantic idea isn’t something you necessarily wear, but items like the above pictured Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers plushies.  What love story in comics is as entertaining or satisfying than Scott and Ramona’s?  Plush anything are hot items now, and while it might be hard to find these larger plush items without checking online, you might be able to find the smaller clip-on versions for a good price.  You’ll have a constant reminder of your true love in clip-on form!

2. Rent the Batman XXX/Superman XXX Porn Parodies

The adult film industry has always parodied genres, popular movies and television shows.  Over the past decade, or so, pornos have really stepped it up in production value.  Once upon a time, you’d see grainy scenes with the classic slap bass soundtrack, or something simply shot in someone’s bedroom with a camcorder.  Now, millions of dollars are spent to make the best adult films out there.  Films shot in HD or actual motion picture quality cameras with full scores are not uncommon.  These are so well made, they capture a lot of attention and, usually, will be accompanied by an R-rated version suitable for video stores unwilling to have “back rooms” and Cinemax.  For these two movies, in particular, a lot of time and consideration went into the costumes and sets to give an authentic feel of the 1960s Batman TV series and the Christopher Reeves Superman movies.  Obviously, I don’t have to explain why I chose this idea on the list.  However, I will say that you can certainly watch these for more comedic entertainment too.  So either way, it’s a win-win situation!

1. Do a little “naughty” cosplay, if you catch my drift…

Guys, please note:  If you are more commonly confused for being Jack Black than Brad Pitt, this will probably not fly with your lady.  Actually, come to think of it, guys, just don’t do this.  This suggestion is just for the ladies because you will have a far more positive reaction to this idea than your lady will to you dressing up.  Now, with that out of the way, I can tell you the exact moment that girls suddenly realized dressing up as a comic book, sci-fi, or cartoon character would drive their boyfriends/husbands wild.  That moment was when Rachel on Friends dressed as Slave Leia for Ross.  Ever since then, costumes have become far more mainstream and conventions have been more and more cluttered with girls in costume.  So, ladies, this might score a 10 on the naughty scale, but if you’re up for it your guy certainly will be.

Well, that’ll do it for my ideas for you to spruce up your Valentine’s Day  We hope you have a good one!
