Dungeons And Dragons #5 Review

Dungeons And Dragons #5

The first wonderful story arc comes to a conclusion. (Sort of) Today I will be reviewing Dungeons and Dragons #5. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. With a full scale invasion looming, Adric decides to blow up the portal and the keep it is located in. With the aid of the flaming skull, Adric and Varis battle their way to the forge and magically causes it to explode. Meanwhile, Kahl and Tisha manage to distract the Cyclops and free their prisoners. The two groups come together to battle it out against the Cyclops and his troops as the keep explodes around them. With no other option, the party heads into the portal in order to survive. Too bad the artifact they are carrying interacts poorly with the portal causing a strange effect. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. Another great action and adventure tale. The art was brilliant once again, starting with that amazing cover. The colors on it were stunning. The splash pages were really nicely done as well. Flying Bree was cool. The story was once again pretty cool. Each character, using their individual skills,  did their part to help the team. Then they reunited at the end to stop the final enemy. Along the way, there was action, sarcasm, and laughter. Just like in a real Dungeons & Dragons game. This book has the most amazing ability to take me back to my childhood and for that reason alone it is a winner. One little issue that I had was Bree’s character sheet was missing thieves tools and/or lockpicks in her equipment list. That is a HUGE no-no in my book. If I was the DM, I wouldn’t allow her to pick locks or disarm traps which would negate half of her purpose on the team. I also miss the stats for the battles that occur in the book, like they did in the first few issues. They should bring that back. It would make recreating the battles in a D&D game easier. Other than that and the lessened humor, this book was awesome. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

Thanks JW. I realy love this series, but I am a huge D&D fan from waaaaaaaay back. It did move a little fast but that’s what makes D&D fun. When you’re rolling on a campaign, everything comes fast and furious. That’s why this title feels so much like a real D&D game.

I have been a comic collector and reader for 25 years. My major comic love is all things Marvel with the X-Men being at the top. I also dabble in anything and everything that catches my eye. Guess that makes me the "all over the place" reviewer. A title which I claim with pride. I am a happily married man of almost 10 years living in Brooklyn, NY with my wife and two amazing boys. I hope you enjoy my opinions and I look forward to reading and responding to any comments or criticisms.
