6 Good & Bad Guesses For Mystery _ _ _ _ _ Reborn Series

Recently Marvel teased an upcoming Reborn series by the all-to-familiar Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuiness team-up. The tease came in the form of the above poster labeling the series _ _ _ _ _ Reborn. Five blank spaces are our only clue (although, could the tease be initially throwing us off?). Marvel will reveal the title at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday, July 23 but until then we can’t help but speculate.

So; we’ve come up with six guesses – not all of them are entirely good guesses, but still…they’re guesses – some of our Marvel writers chime in.

Official press release:

Megastars Jeph Loeb and Ed McGuinness (HULK, Superman/Batman) reunite this December for an action packed story of epic proportions. Want to know what it is? Find out in two weeks at the Cup O’ Joe Panel (Saturday, July 23rd at 2:45PM PST) during Comic Con International in San Diego!

Our guesses (as good or bad as they may be):

Bucky

Geoff: B-U-C-K-Y Reborn. I’m betting the farm on it. After all the people complaining about that happening when Bru first brought him back, has gained a HUGE following. I just thought that would have happened in a Brubaker book, not a Loeb/McGuinness book. [Although] Jeph Loeb might be the right person to bring Bucky back because he likes to tell a little more personal stories that runs through a whole character’s life. (Odds 3-2)

Jamie: I’m 100% certain that Marvel’s new ‘Reborn’ series will center around the rebirth of Bucky. The evidence is overwhelming: Bucky is a popular character; he just died a meaningless death; they didn’t bring him back after sixty years just to kill him off again. Besides, its not like Bucky and Steve Rogers are Harry Potter and Voldemort: “For neither can live while the other survives!”

Victor: Bucky is the obvious choice. His death was too abrupt and he has too high a fan base to be written off. He’s the one that will be back.

Cable

Geoff: Meh. Cable is an interesting thought because if there’s one thing Ed McGuinness does, it’s beefy. (Odds 50-1)

Jamie: I don’t think even X-Men fans are clamoring for the return of Cable.

Victor: No one cared when he died in Second Coming. No reason to bring him back now.

Torch

Geoff: It can’t be Torch. The only way I can see this working out is if Torch is angry that the FF hasn’t returned and is turned against them. I doubt it, but it would be a new interesting twist on the FF. (Odds 10-1)

Jamie: I guarantee you its not Johnny Storm/Torch; all the work they put into his demise and whole arc they’ve put together for life without him hasn’t paid off yet.

Victor: His body was never recovered. He’s not dead to begin with. I guarantee Johnny Storm is still alive and being held prisoner by Annihilus

Thing

Geoff: I certainly hope this teaser is giving away something big for the end of Fear Itself. It would be a hell of a year for the poor FF if Thing did bite the big one. I just can’t believe this would be a real possibility. (Odds 100-1)

Jamie: I don’t see how the series could be about The Thing as he’s currently alive, even if possessed (or whatever) in the Fear Itself series… unless it’s a figurative rebirth like the recent Daredevil Reborn series!

Victor: No way will Fear Itself be spoiled before it ends so it will NOT be him.(Nor will he die. We already have Bucky as the sacrificial “event” lamb)

Wasp

Geoff: Now this is one person that might very well be on her way back to the Marvel U. It wouldn’t happen in a mini-series though. I would believe it would happen in either Avengers or New Avengers. I could see Janet back in action a year from now for sure, though. (Odds 25-1)

Jamie: I feel that [she has] fallen so far by the wayside that their return isn’t important enough to warrant its own limited series.

Victor: She’s sitting in Limbo according to Amadeus Cho and Hercules. Maybe its time to bring her back. Not likely though.

Phoenix

Geoff: Between Jean Gray and Bucky, these two should be running the table. If I’m not mistaken, Phoenix has been gone quite a while. It seems only natural that if she was coming back, I would see this being slightly bigger than an X-Men thing. I suspect Jean will be back sooner than later though. (Odds 7-1)

Jamie: See comments on Wasp.

Victor: The split caused by Schism caused much turmoil among the mutants. Phoenix is one of the few people that can reach both Cyclops and Wolverine and bring them together. This is my personal pick for who I wish would be reborn. She won’t be…but soon [hopefully].

Well…we’ll find out on Saturday, July 23 if we nailed it. Cross your fingers.

Given the revelations of the most recent issue of Fear Itself, it could be Thor who is reborn, no?.

  2. Victor Kutsenok says:

I’ll use the same theory for Thor as I did for Thing. Hopefully, Marvel is not stupid enough to spoil the ending of Fear Itself before the “event” actually ends. That would be a complete slap in the face of the fans and a total waste of an “event”. However, this is Marvel, so you never know.

  3. GizmoDan says:

In any case I have a feeling it won’t be of high standard. Especially if we take Loeb’s recent comics into account. I do like McGuiness though.

My guess is Hulk at the moment. After Pak’s run I can see Loeb taking over

  4. Maybe it’s not a person but a team or group; “X-Men” is 5 spaces and uncanny is ending soon. The Alpha Flight Fear Itself tie-in is getting a lot of buzz (A-L-P-H-A).

  5. Arachne Solara says:

Please, please, please–let it mot be the freakin’ Sentry!

  6. Aaric Rivad says:

My pick would be Bucky, too. His death served no purpose other than to get Steve back in the uniform.

I also don’t give a crap what Herc and Cho say about the Wasp. Limbo? Pfffft. I want her to come back, but hopefully it will be in the pages of the Avengers.

    it’s CABLE reborn!

Apparently, Loeb really likes the character. Not sure what to think, but seeing as the loeb-mcguinness team created the Superman/Baman comic, i have to say i’m really interested to see what he’s got cookin’ with Cable.
