Uncanny X-Men #539
So let’s talk about the book. Hope’s teammates take her out on a shopping trip so she can live a little. Too bad her outing gets interrupted by Crimson Commando, ex member of Freedom Force, who kidnaps her. It seems he lost his powers during M-Day and is now dying. He thinks that Hope’s magic touch will restore his powers. Good thing Wolverine comes and rescues her. While escaping, they are ambushed and Wolverine is knocked out. Hope, however, using her resourcefulness and training from Cable, manages to stall long enough for Wolverine to recover and save the day. Then the two have a heart to heart about how Hope is fine if Wolverine is the one to kill her if she ever gets too powerful and loses control. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. So basically what we have here is a filler book that really has absolutely no impact on the overall X-Men storylines. It’s just a way to give the fans a breather from the big story arcs and set up for the upcoming Fear Itself tie-in arc. It was a nice quick read but not really necessary to put in an issue of Uncanny. The same story could have been told in an issue of Generation Hope and it wouldn’t have made a difference. It was very fast paced and had some nice action. It definitely reinforced the strength and resilience of Hope and confirmed her years of training under Cable. The fact that Wolverine would be the one to kill Hope is a given and I’m glad Hope can accept it. Hope is potentially a great character, but she doesn’t need to be focused on here. She has her own title. Wolverine has god knows how many books so we really didn’t need another story involving him either. I think Uncanny should focus on the X-Men team and not really on individuals. That’s why its a team book. Hopefully, over the next few issues, the whole team can get some face time. (They’ll need the whole damn team to take on a Worthy Juggernaut) The art was very nice. Clean, beautiful faces with gorgeous detailed backgrounds. Overall, a nice read but nothing special. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
