Joker Still Be Hatin In Batgirl #1 [Preview]

Thanks to the New York Post we get our first official preview to Batgirl #1 and it appears that the promise of The Killing Joke remaining in continuity is being kept.
The article itself doesn’t contain any new information, just a well thought out title “She’s Bat in action!” and a peculiar line about fans “taken to petitions and protests aimed at keeping Barbara out of the Bat family” – the “petitions and protests” seemed to be aimed more at Harley Quinn’s defense and she never left the “Bat family.”
The most telling news though, it looks like the events in The Killing Joke (Joker paralyzing Barbara) will in fact remain in continuity. No mention of Oracle that I could see though.
*apologies for the low res quality of the pictures, this is how they came*

Batgirl #1 comes out September 7, 2011, is written by Gail Simone with art by Ardian Syaf and Vicente Cifuentes and was one of 10 titles picked in our Where To Start Reading: The DC Comics Relaunch.

I can’t wait for this series, it’s the one I’m looking forward to the most. Barbara Gordon(Either as Batgirl or Oracle) is my all time favorite female hero. The only thing I’m sad about the relaunch is that there’s no new Captain Marvel comic.
P.S. Any news on Power Girl being in the relaunch or did she became the new Supergirl(I assume since the synopses of issue 1-3 sounds Power Girl-ish)?
They should just make this series take place before she got shot. Controversy avoided.
Looks good…very good, in fact! Surprisingly gritty style to it too. I cant say Im too impressed that Oracle seems to have been either retconned/ignored in this new book…Im going to miss her.
As much as Im looking forward to this book, its a shame it basically wipes out the past 25 years by bringing back the original Batgirl [ in other words, wiping out her disability, as if DC were embarrassed, Im surprised Simone colluded with this].
Still, I’ll buy it, Im a big BOP fan.
I love Gail Simone’s writing but “Gotham bless my aim”? The last entity I’d want blessing anything is Gotham City.
Neglected to mention…I really hope Barbara’s paralysis isn’t trivialised by being “temporary” with just a token hat tip to the Killing Joke.
