Taskmaster Vs. Judomaster [Fantasy Battle Tournament]

Stepping into the ring today is untouchable martial artist from the JSA versus the deadly assassin with the photographic reflexes. The fans have been polled. Their votes have been recorded. Let the battle begin.

Judomaster Vs. Taskmaster

Darkness. Strange and unfamiliar. Suffocating his sight and senses. Clouding his mind with memories and thoughts he cannot understand. Searching his brain and trying to remember his long list of opponents for any similarities, Taskmaster cannot find any connection to this darkness and anyone he has faced in the past. With no reference to who his abductor might be, Taskmaster must now do something he has rarely done in a long time, face the unknown. Lucky for him, he’s pretty adaptable. First things first though, getting out of the darkness. He can feel that he is still fully dressed in his full body armor. His sword is still strapped to his side, his shield is attached to his forearm, and he can feel a full quiver of arrows on his back as well as his bow.

“Good” he thinks to himself. “Ready for war. Now what?”

Suddenly, a strange and unfamiliar voice speaks in his head. “Defeat your enemy and you live. Lose, and you die. Refuse to fight and I’ll kill you both.”

“How much do I get if I kill this enemy?” asks Taskmaster calmly. “My usual fee is 3 million, but for you, I’d be willing to lower the price.”

His only response is a laugh and a sudden burst of light. Taskmaster quickly raises his shield to cover his face and protect himself from a possible attack. When none comes, he slowly lowers the defensive disc and opens his eyes. As his vision clears, he begins to scan his surroundings. He appears to be in the middle of a room approximately 100 feet wide by 100 feet long. Full body mirrors line the length of the walls. There are also dozens of mirrors placed throughout the room. He can see reflections of himself everywhere.

“Now I know I’m a good looking guy, but even I don’t need this many reminders.” muses Taskmaster.

Pulling out his sword, Taskmaster cautiously starts making his way through the maze of mirrors. He is expecting an attack to come at any time. Even still, he is not ready when a flying kick catches him in the face and knocks him down. Another kick is quickly deflected by his shield. Using his photographic reflexes, Taskmaster instantly calls up Iron Fist’s kung Fu skills. He easily parries the next few blows from his mysterious opponent. When he tries to attack, however, none of his blows seem to land. It’s as if his opponent can knows where his punches and kicks will be, and is just not there to be hit. The mirrors are also starting to confuse him as he is unable to focus on his target. Instead of getting frustrated, Taskmaster starts to focus. Assuming a defensive stance, Taskmaster begins smashing the the mirrors with his sword. Shards of glass start flying in all directions, some even flying into him and cutting him a little. His opponent also gets hit with some glass shards. Slowly, she backs away from the carnage. When there is nothing left to smash, and all of the mirrors are broken and on the ground, Taskmaster relaxes and takes a better look at his adversary. He is a bit surprised when he notices who he is up against.

“Why, you’re nothing but a little girl.” he laughs. “What ever possessed you to come after a guy like me?”

His adversary does not respond. She slowly advances on Taskmaster.

“Uh-uh girlie. You had your chance to get the drop on me. Now you’re in trouble.” he says.

Judomaster still does not respond, but continues to move towards her enemy.

“Silent ninja type huh?” asks Taskamster. “OK. Have it your way. Words or no words, today you will go down. I have a reputation to uphold.”

Switching his style to mimic his opponent’s, along with some Shang Chi and Daredevil, Taskmaster starts to attack. Unfortunately, none of his blows seem to land. His opponent, however, keeps on peppering him with tiny blows. One after another, the punches keep connecting with his face and body. If not for his armor, Taskmaster thinks he would have been down by now. Slowly backing up, he starts to think.

“She seems to know what I’m doing and is avoiding my attacks. Yet I was able to cut her with the mirrors. But those attacks were aimed at the mirrors and not her.” he thinks to himself. Putting the facts together in his mind, Taskmaster comes to a realization and decides to try something.

Dropping his sword, Taskmaster grabs his bow and pulls an arrow from his quiver and shoots it at Judomaster with Hawkeye like speed. The arrow seems to be on point, but completely misses it’s mark at the last second. Pulling a second arrow, this time with an exploding tip, Taskmaster takes aim at the ground in front of Judomaster and lets loose. The arrow slams into the ground and explodes on impact. The shockwave from the explosion smashes into Judomaster knocks her to the ground.

“I know your trick now, girl.” he cries. “Prepare to meet death.”

Unloading a few more concussion arrows, Taskmaster also launches his shield into the air, using the skills of Captain America. The arrows begin to explode all around Judomaster, knocking her around a bit. She starts to slowly get up, just as Taskmaster’s shield smashes into her head, dropping her to the ground like a bag of bricks. Picking up some random shards of glass, Taskmaster calls upon the abilities of Bullseye and throws them into the air.

“Goodbye, girl. Better luck in your next life.” says Taskmaster as the shards of glass start to fall. Fall right into the prone body of Judomaster.

“I guess that means I win.” laughs Taskmaster. “Now you owe me 3 million. Be a nice evil unknown being and come out so I can collect. I promise a quick death.”

The only answer he receives is a laugh and darkness.

I have been a comic collector and reader for 25 years. My major comic love is all things Marvel with the X-Men being at the top. I also dabble in anything and everything that catches my eye. Guess that makes me the "all over the place" reviewer. A title which I claim with pride. I am a happily married man of almost 10 years living in Brooklyn, NY with my wife and two amazing boys. I hope you enjoy my opinions and I look forward to reading and responding to any comments or criticisms.
