Gamora Vs. Richard Dragon [Fantasy Battle Tournament]

Stepping into the ring today is the most dangerous woman in the universe versus the Kung Fu master. The fans have been polled. Their votes have been recorded. Let the battle begin.

Gamora vs. Richard Dragon

Darkness. Encompassing his entire being. Stirring troubling thoughts in his head. Thoughts that fill him with fear. However, through his years of training and martial arts discipline, he is able to fight down that fear and focus. Focus on the task at hand. What is happening? How did he come to be in this situation. The last thing he remembers is having a great workout, and then settling down for some long meditation. Now this. Slowly rising from his lotus position, Richard prepares for whatever will happen next.

Suddenly, a strange and unfamiliar voice speaks in his head. “Defeat your enemy and you live. Lose, and you die. Refuse to fight and I’ll kill you both.”

“An honorable death against a worthy opponent, I can accept.” whispers Dragon. “A threat and some random killing, that is not the way of a true warrior.”

His only response is a laugh and a sudden burst of light. Richard immediately assumes a fighting stance and tenses for an attack, but when none come, he relaxes. As his sight clears, he begins to observe his surroundings. The sight is definitely a strange one. He appears to be in some sort of futuristic room. There are robots and computers and strange metal tables all around him. In fact, everywhere he looks he can see metal. Maybe he is on a space station of some sort.

Not one to let something strange or new stop him, Richard Dragon accepts the strangeness and moves on. He does not have to fight this madness, only the enemy who has caused it. Once that enemy is defeated, Richard is positive everything will return to normal. With that thought bouncing in his head, Richard starts moving towards the nearest walkway.

After a few minutes of walking, he notices a movement from the corner of his eye. Using his lightning fast reflexes, Richard is barely able to avoid a blurring fist that just misses his head. Backing up quickly, Richard just slightly sidesteps another punch and is able to block a kick. After blocking a few more blows, Richard even manages to build up a small attack of his own, which his strange looking opponent easily deflects. Richard is very surprised when he notices that his opponent is a female. He doesn’t get overconfident at this fact since one of the deadliest people he knows is a female and Lady Shiva is one person you never want to underestimate.

“You are not a very honorable warrior.” says Dragon. “Attacking from behind. This is no proper way for two respectable warriors to do battle.”

“I’m here for victory, not honor.” says Gamora. “For making all of my friends disappear, I want your head. You can keep your respect. Be thankful you’re not already dead. I need you alive so you can give me some answers.”

“I know nothing of your friends.” says Richard. “I’m in the same situation you are in. Except you seem to be somewhere you recognize. I’m completely lost. I didn’t make anyone disappear and I have no idea who did.”

Gamora carefully studies Richard’s face. “You seem to be telling the truth. Also, you don’t sound like the voice I heard earlier. Unfortunately for you, that means I don’t have to hold back any more. Sorry warrior. No honor today. Only death.”

With that statement, Gamora pulls out a wicked looking curved dagger and begins to advance. This time she moves in with a completely new attack style. Richard barely manages to deflect a few thrusts when Gamora starts to speed up. It seems she really was holding back. Using her cybernetically enhanced agility, Gamora is able to outpace and outmaneuver her slower opponent. Even with all of Richard Dragon’s skills and training, he is no match for the quicker, deadlier opponent. Within a few minutes, Gamora breaks through the warrior’s defenses and scores with multiple slashes of her dagger. Slowly the lifeblood seeps out of Richard’s body. Making him weaker and weaker. Gamora shows no mercy as she delivers the killing blow.

Standing over her fallen opponent. Gamora cries out. “I don’t know who you are, but you screwed with the wrong woman. When I find you, I will prove it. Pray to whatever gods you know, because none of them can stop me.”

The only answer she receives is a laugh and darkness.

The Winner: Gamora

With a slight edge of 65% of the votes,  Gamora is the winner and moves on to round two. Is that who you would have picked? Make your opinion heard. Please comment on this article. Don’t forget to keep voting for the next battles…

Why not just have Richard Dragon fight Darkseid in a broom closet? How did he draw Gamora? They’re definitely not in the same weight class at all. These lads can’t catch a break.

What can I say? It’s all in the luck of the draw. And just like in his comic career, Richard Dragon has no luck.

I have been a comic collector and reader for 25 years. My major comic love is all things Marvel with the X-Men being at the top. I also dabble in anything and everything that catches my eye. Guess that makes me the "all over the place" reviewer. A title which I claim with pride. I am a happily married man of almost 10 years living in Brooklyn, NY with my wife and two amazing boys. I hope you enjoy my opinions and I look forward to reading and responding to any comments or criticisms.
