The Fearless #6 Review

Sin and the D.O.A. vs the Avengers. Today I will be reviewing The Fearless #6. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.
The Fearless #6
So let’s talk about the book. Flashback to Fear Itself, Brunnhilde AKA Valkyrie is talking to Odin about having faith in the heroes of Earth to withstand the Serpent and defeat him. Flash forward to the future, Sin and the DOA have arrived at Project Pegasus where another Worthy hammer is being held. The New Avengers have arrived as well to protect it. Sin is not worried and turns on a machine that causes a bunch of magical and mystical creatures to attack. Sin and the DOA join that attack while the Avengers try to fight them off. During the confusion, Crossbones sneaks off to get the hammer. Too bad it is being guarded by Wolverine. Meanwhile, Valkyrie returns to Asgard and talks to the All Mother. She reassures Valkyrie that this quest can continue and when it is all over, she will help fulfill Odin’s promise and end Valkyrie’s service to Asgard by ending her life. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. Another excellent issue from one of the most cohesively written multi-plotted stories of the past year. This issue focuses on the bad guys again. I really enjoy that about this series. It not only follows the hero, it really devotes equal time to the villain. It lets you get into her mind and really experience what makes her tick. She has a purpose. An insane and destructive one, but one that makes perfect sense to her. I understand the DOA following her but why is Crossbones? She plans on destroying the world. Maybe Sin has a death wish, but does Crossbones have one too? I know Valkyrie has one. After centuries of servitude, maybe she yearns for release and this is her one way to get it. And she’ll let nothing get in the way of achieving her ultimate goal. In a very strange way, both of these characters are alike in purpose and determination. Pretty cool writing, if you ask me. Also this issue, we get to see some great action too. We finally get a glimpse at the DOA and what they are capable of. The fight scene against the Avengers was really cool. The scattered bits of humor and sarcasm only sweetened the story for me. I’m curious as to how this tale will actually end. Will it end in a sacrifice and the death of Valkyrie? She’s not really a Tier 1 character so it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch for Marvel to kill her. Also, she can be easily replaced with someone else. Or, will she discover that her life is more precious than she realizes and choose not to die at the end? That is something that I personally want to find out. Good job by the writers to have their hooks in me for the entire series already at only the halfway point. I wish all long story arcs could do that. They usually loose me by the third part. I guess that’s why this series is so good. As for the art, once again we get perfection there. Once again we get a multitude of different characters being drawn without flaw. (Sidenote. When did Hawkeye get that ridiculous mask? Why does he want to look like a purple version of Green Arrow? Seriously, Marvel guys, get your act together. We start the trends, we don’t copy them) The splashes are great and the covers are always awesome. Top that off with that last page Wolverine image, and I’m already salivating with desire for next issue. That is what a complete comic is all about. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
