New Batman TV Show “Beware The Bat” Arrives Earlier Than Expected.

Beware The Batman TV Show

Not a lot of buzz was generated from the quietly accounted new Batman TV show, Beware The Batman, back in October 2011 largely due to it’s 2013 targeted premier and lack of anything beyond one or two screencaps; however Superherohype.com is now reporting that we’ll see the CGI animated show on Cartoon Network’s DC Nation later this year. Even got a new poster.

And the better/worse news, DC is pushing the envelope; Sam Register from Warner Bros Animation (in the original announcement) said, “We didn’t want to do another Joker story…we just needed to do something new.” The show will feature a deeper dive into the rogues gallery (Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad and Magpie all specifically mentioned), Alfred’s an “ex-secret agent,” and Katana is our new Robin (kinda).

Because you know, shows like Batman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Batman: Brave and the Bold were so unsuccessful.

From the press release:

A cool, new take on the classic Dark Knight franchise, Beware the Batman incorporates Batman’s core characters with a rogues gallery of new villains not previously seen in animated form. Along with backup from ex-secret agent Alfred and lethal swordstress Katana, the Dark Knight faces the twisted machinations of Gotham City’s criminal underworld led by the likes of Anarky, Professor Pyg, Mister Toad and Magpie. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, this action-packed detective thriller deftly redefines what we have come to know as a “Batman show.” Featuring cutting-edge CGI visuals to match the intricate twists and turns of the narrative, Batman steps out of the shadows and into the spotlight for an entirely new generation of fans. With WBA’s Sam Register executive producing, and Batman Beyond’s Glen Murakami and Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated’s Mitch Watson producing, Beware the Batman, based on characters from DC Comics, is coming soon to Cartoon Network!

[cool but why on Earth you’d have a Batman show with a female ninja sidekick and it not be Cassandra Cain is beyond me.

I can’t help but be excited at any new Batman TV show and despite the jabs I’m actually intrigued by both the animation style and twists to the characters but I’m still ready for more non-Batman shows from DC for awhile. Young Justice and Green Lantern: The Animated Series are kicking butt right now and were still only scratching the surface of possibilities; the Flash and it’s family of characters and villains could be a great kids show, Superman and his family are prime for a “new take,” the whole Captain Marvel Shazam! crew or what about a Batgirl show?

That being said I’ll be last persom to complain about DC’s TV commitments right now as I’m loving my Saturday mornings.

Plus, they said Anarky. So cool.

Skip to 35:34 for the original 2011 announcement:

And if think you’ve seen that Batman-reaching-out-to-you image before, it’s because you have…

A couple of times…

What? Another Batman cartoon? Does DC have any other characters worthy of promotion? Wonder Woman? Flash? Captain Marvel? No wonder Batman is so popular, he’s all they promote.

It’s like they’re afraid of effort. My Uncle told me something once, “If you want something, you have to put something into it.”

Wonder Woman would be good. Captain Marvel (or more likely, SHAZAM!”) would be good for kids. They would have to promote the shows as much on their own merits as they would rely on name recognition. Too much work.

Really, I’m getting so sick of Batman I’m starting to prefer Superman.

Agreed . . . After Jonah Hex & Green Lantern . . . its no wonder they want the safest way out (Batman)

The ironic part is, without visionary thinkers like Timm and Dini in animation as well as Chris Nolan for Film, Batman wouldn’t be nearly as popular of a character right now.

I don’t think any of these tv guys are trying/ allowed to create something new . . .they just wait to see which movie hits and they start making it all about that character. Why is batman the only character they keep promoting? . . .cause he’s the only one that has worked. Case in point: Even among the trinity, Superman Returns illicited a shrug while the Wonder Woman tv show pilot was an hour long punchline. . . . .Both probably cost years of tireless work and more money than any of us could ever hope to make in our lives.
