X-Factor #233 Review

 X-Factor #233

Havok and Polaris are back!

X-Factor #233

This issue opens with a bit that shows my X-Men ignorance – I have no idea who Josef Huber is.  If you were as in the dark as I was, check this out, but suffice to say, he’s a bad guy who hates mutants.  So anyway, Huber gets a visit by some dude with horns who wants to help Huber is in his goal of killing all mutants…  so I’m sure this plot thread will pick up next issue or so.  Meanwhile, after Madrox’s death, X-Factor hooked up with new leadership – Havok and Polaris!  Of course, Madrox is not dead anymore, so hilarious consequences will ensue when the rest of X-Factor gets back to base after their current mission.  Speaking of which, the new team has been called in by throwback Val Cooper to evict a shanty town of mutant haters, which they do, in their own fantastic mutant powered fashion.  Finally, the book end with the best bit of dialogue you could finish an issue with:

MADROX:  Hey, Pip.  I’m back from the dead.

PIP:  Whatever.  Don’t bother me when I’m on a porn site.

Peter David continues to weave a web; setting up new plot threads while inter-cutting between difference scenes.  Right now, PAD is my favorite writer – he keeps the pages turning with ease while dropping in a mix of humorous and serious dialogue that has come to make X-Factor my current favorite comic book.  There just isn’t any other book like this, and if you’re not currently reading X-Factor, issue 233 is a great place to jump aboard.  Leonard Kirk’s art is also great fun, but David Yardin’s covers continue to steal the show.
