DC Comics in 2010: Bruce Wayne to return in April 2010

According to the DC’s The Source, we should be seeing Bruce Wayne back by April of 2010! For many fans, this is incredible news. For a while now, though Dick’s been doing a good job and the last few months’ worth of issues have all been – for the most part – pretty awesome, we’ve been wondering when Morrison would decide it was time to bring back the “true Bat”. The article makes no certain strides in explaining how or why Bruce makes his way back to the here and now but the sketches provided – A pirate? A caveman? – give us some kind of insight into his voyage up through time, perhaps.

But the USA Today story linked through DC’s blog gives further information about the writers’ plans for Bruce’s come-back. From what I can tell, they’ll have a three-part story in which we’ll see Bruce forge his way through different eras of time to find his rightful place back in present day Gotham.

But what of Dick? What will become of young Damian? I know that there are entire camps of readers who are on board with the sometimes out there story lines that Grant Morrison has become renowned for, but in the opposite corner are the haters.  Personally, I can go along with a story of time travel. I believe that if you are invested in the characters and the art and if the actual writing is good, almost anything is buyable. I buy a story like this, hands down, because I cannot wait to see how he comes back and what fall-out the Bat Family then experiences.

Other sentiments about his return will probably be born out of the fact that many a Superhero has returned from “the dead” and perhaps this is becoming old. I mean, Superman, Captain America, Flash and so on and so forth have all come back not too long after their deaths. The difference, however, is that as far as I can tell, DC made it clear that the likelihood of Bruce living on in the past was very, well, likely! Tim always believed, no matter what anyone told him. And in the real world, we read story after story by people in the know who guaranteed that Bruce was not in any grave. So we’ll just have to wait and see what DC and Morrison have in store for us come next year!

I, for one, am excited to read this upcoming storyline.
