New Batgirl Cover Up: Arguments Continue

Batgirl #3 Cover by Phil Noto.

In a move to further entice fans and keep them talking, DC has posted yet another beautiful Phil Noto cover for the new Batgirl series.  Some on the DC boards have surmised that the covers are focusing in on certain handicaps of the last couple Batgirls, ie the mouth on Batgirl #1 and loose threading around it might lead one to think Cassandra Cain’s back at it, while the cover of Batgirl #2, which focuses on the legs and a sort of modern update of the original Batgirl costume has some fans thinking it might Barbara Gordon.  As you can see the newest cover focuses on the new Batgirl’s eyes, which are violet, an eye color neither Barbara Gordon or Cassandra Cain have.

So far there’s been almost nothing but speculation about the new Batgirl series.  No interviews, no real plot summary, just these covers and the theories of fans.  Let’s hope the new Batgirl series has something more than mystery to keep the readers interested.

  1. I’ll just be honest…I hate this cover (not that I could do any better).

I think the eyeholes are a bit overdone, but how could you hate it?

    • Too glossy and I don’t like the Red contrast. The other covers had a background color that complimented the image, along with more detail. This one just seemed quickly done and a little out of place.

I guess I could see the colors contrasting too much. The last couple covers had warmer colors, whereas this one’s a little more harsh. Makes me wonder if they’re saying something different about this Batgirl when compared to the other two covers.

  3. I think its kind of a soft image for a Bat title.

Remember how Nightwing didn’t want to be the new Batman but he stepped in partly to keep Jason Todd from abusing the title.

I think they’re probably playing the same trick again. It doesn’t matter who batgirl will be in the first issue because she will either abuse the name or be some amateur that gets in over her head. Then hopefully Cassandra will jump in to set things right.
