Streets of Gotham #6 Review
Written by Chris Yost. Art by Dustin Nguyen and Derek Fridolfs
“Leviathan” Part 2 of 2
Though I was completely sold on Streets of Gotham as of last issue, I felt utterly lost in this one. I don’t want to say “bored” but it left me feeling less than satisfied.
(Some spoilers)
Picking up where issue five left off, Man-bat and Huntress are still in the church through which they crashed down into on Father Mark, who had been hearing “the voice of God”, instructing him to do awful things. He’s debating on whether or not to just kill the beast and the harlot, as he says. The voice appears to be coming from an invisible man, whom Man-bat can see but no one else.
My main problem with this issue are the flashbacks in time – maybe only 6 or 9 hours – but they seemed to be confusing. It took me two reads to really understand.
Cue Batman, who incapacitates Man-Bat, leaving them without an eye for the master voice. There’s a twist at the end of this issue that was… interesting but overall, I feel like we were let down here. Part one of this arc opened so many possibilities and I loved the idea of the priest fighting to uphold his faith. This seemingly very short issue fell flat, to me, and I didn’t feel very resolved at the end. Here’s hoping Yost’s next arc is more riveting.
