Blackest Night #1 Review

Blackest Night #1
Well everyone, It’s here. Finally, the Blackest Night has descended upon the DC Universe, and has already created a tsunami due to smash into every storyline here very shortly. This issue was incredibly anticipated since the first announcements of the series. I have awaited this issue for quite some time, and was hoping it would clear up some questions I had about the current story lines. After reading this issue, forget all those other questions, I just wanna talk about this freaking issue!!!!
In my pretty educated Green Lantern point-of-view, this issue brings issues that revolve around the Green Lantern’s straight into the rest of the DCU AWESOMELY! Geoff Johns is brilliant, and this issue show’s just how brilliant he is. Left-field surprises, why-didn’t-I-think-of-that moments, subtle hints and massive scare factor, this issue has everything I have always wanted out of Green Lantern and more.
Bringing the Black Lanterns onto the pages took just about as long as I expected, in other words, there’s no waiting around for the last few pages to show what you know will happen. There are multiple “What the #%@#” moments that do a lot to enhance the experience, taking it from just another story line to what I can only explain as a crisis. The script is brilliant, very mood-fitting and self-explanatory, bringing what you know the character would be thinking onto the page in a no-holds-barred, this-is-how-it-is type of dialogue. There’s no beating around the bush in this, and hopefully the next issues will follow suit.
The art in Blackest Night #1 is incredibly realistic. I never thought it was possible to put that much detail into characters who are nothing but evil zombies of dead heroes. The Black Lantern’s look like better zombies then I have seen in any movie ever. George A. Romero can’t beat this, and that’s saying something. I would have to say, any artist that can make Ch’P look evil gets my props. If you ask me, Ivan Reis is one of the best artists this side of Marvel. Seems like he can interpret any character any way he needs to.
Well, here we go. First off, I am really glad the Comics Code Authority doesn’t have as much control over the industry as they used to, or this issue would have come out incredibly different. Second of all, I have heard many people say this is the best single issue they have ever read. I, ladies and gentleman, agree. I give this issue 10 OUT OF 10. That’s right, a perfect score. Pick this issue up, and I think you’ll agree. So pick it up and tell us what you thought of it.

I agree Mason, this was an awesome start to the series.
Definitely. What I’m wondering is how quick will the impact on the entire DCU. I hope the devastation will exceed the hype.
Believe it or not I JUST read this; and holy crap. Black Lanterns. Holy Crap.
Pretty sick huh?
Couldn’t agree with you more moyermason. It gets better after you read for the 10th and 11th time as well!
*****SPOILER ALERT SPOILER ALERT******
i just bought it today and OH MY GOD is it amazing. The best part is the zombie j’onn! it’s so great, i completely agree with the 10 out of 10. and the beginning scene is also an amazing part (although i was a little grossed out when black hand licked bruce wayne’s skull haha).
Yeah, I’ve read it probably 20 times so far. I pick it up to just check it out when I’m bored, then I end up reading the whole thing 2 or 3 times. Yeah, the part with Bruce Wayne’s skull is gross, but I added a lot of shock factor to it.lol.
