Green Lantern #47 Review
This issue of Green Lantern is critical to the flow of Blackest Night, and I would suggest reading it BEFORE Blackest Night #4, mainly because Geoff Johns said to do so on his twitter account, and seeing as I read it that way, it had more of an impact on the overall story to me. Anyway, on to the review!
(As a side note, yes, I know this issue came out a week ago, sorry for the delay)
The issue is spectacularly written by Geoff Johns, and I must say, know that we get the chance to get some interaction between Abin Sur (albeit as a Black Lantern) and Hal Jordan, it really makes the GL universe seem a little more complete. The story is mainly about the relationships between Hal, Carol Ferris, Sinestro (whose first name is revealed as Thaal, at least, it was the first I had ever heard of it), Abin Sur, and his sister Arin. It is also revealed that Arin was Sinestro’s wife/lover, and also, it should be noted that she could be Soranik Natu’s mother, backed-up by the fact that when Sinestro was revealing the fact that he is her father back in Green Lantern Corps #36, it didn’t show her mother’s face, just her covering her face with her hands, crying. Anyway, Geoff Johns is continuing to impress each week, continuing to bring flair and excitement to the series, reinforcing my idea that he should work on GL until the day he dies.
The art is drawn brilliantly by Doug Mahnke, with inks by Christian Alamy, Mahnke, Tom Nguyen and Mark Irwin, with colors by Randy Mayor. The art team is continually amazing in all aspects, whether it be the radically varying anatomies of the characters, the dynamic angles chosen for the panels, and even something as simple as the layout choices, they certainly don’t disappoint. Ever since Mahnke came on board with #43, the series has continually looked better aesthetically, although I couldn’t begin to explain the sudden change in the way the art fit’s the series.
Overall, a great issue, definitely worth picking up if you haven’t already, and here’s how I would rate the issue:
