Deadpool #13 & #14 Review
Well, ladies and gents the kind folks at Marvel were on their A-game this month as far as getting out not one, but two issues of Deadpool in the same month. I know a couple of you are saying, “yeah, but they were probably behind a month hence the reason you get two issues in one month.” Not so with this title.
The best part about this is the fact that it’s a two issue arc of a story, meaning you get the beginning and the end of the story in the same month. The issues involve Deadpool, deciding he’s had more than enough of just being a rich guy and heading out to sea with Bob, Agent of Hydra, for pirate adventures. Unfortunately for them their adventure comes to a quick halt when Deadpool realizes that actual modern day pirates are trying to steal his idea. This of course leads to a fight, which has more to do with craftiness than actual fisticuffs.
This storyline is much more fun oriented than plot oriented, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Deadpool doesn’t really grow here, though he does make a decision that will lead into the next storyline at the end of issue #14. Overall though there’s lots of laughs to be had and some hope for Bob after all the crap Deadpool put him through in this storyline.
The artist is an up and comer by the name of Shawn Crystal and he does an excellent job of mixing a sense of realism and cartooniness without going too far into either style. His characters looked like regular every day people too, which was a nice change from the usual supermodel look.
All in all if you’re looking for a break from the duldrums of Dark Reign or Blackest Night and just want a laugh or two then I would highly recommend these two issues.
Overall I give this an 8.5 out of 10
