Final Crisis: Ink #6 of 6 Review
Final Crisis: Ink #6 is the conclusion to what has been an interesting storyline that seemed to fill a niche that has long needed filling in the DC verse. A story set within the ghetto’s of the DC universe, each issue seemed to end with things continuously getting worse for our character. However, issue #5 ended a bit weaker than past issues. Mark lost his honorary JLA membership, which is a huge blow to the ego, but in comparison to his tattoos murdering without his say so, his leaving his family and the city he’s sworn to protect falling down around him, its not that big of a deal.
This unfortunately continues into issue #6. The final fight between he and his brother is rather anti-climactic, his family is barely mentioned and everything seems to be just be going through the motions for what is an interesting guest appearance at the end of the issue. I won’t say who the guest is, but I will say that you get an idea of what sort of people are going to be joining the new Titans team when Eric Wallace starts writing it.
Another point of interest was the slight change in art style. The pencils are less gritty, the coloring a bit clearer. Perhaps this also is a sign of things to come with Fabrizio Fiorentino’s joining of the Titans team, but it doesn’t feel right in this comic. One of the things I had liked about the book was that the art was a bit muddy, giving the tone of the comic a dirty feel.
I can’t help but wonder if the comic would been done the same way had Eric and Fabrizio not been given the job of writing the Titans series. Would the guest appearance have been shoehorned in or would there have been more time for Mark to deal with everything that had happened to him and his family as a result of his brother’s influence on the gang wars that nearly destroyed his city?
