Outsiders #20 Review

Outsiders #20

Ouitsiders #20

In Outsiders #20 we come to a conclusion of sorts to the first story arc of the new Outsiders.  Things flowed much better in this issue than in the prior issue with its jumping around.  That isn’t to say that there wasn’t any jumping around in this issue, just that it was handled much better this time around.  The team find themselves on a hunt for the remaining pieces of the meteor that gave Vandal Savage his immortality while Creeper takes on a small army.

I found the dialogue shared between Ra’s and Vandal Savage interesting as it hinted at the true nature of The Insiders without having to spell it out.  The ending to this issue though felt a little rushed though as all of the plot points converged without really making too much of a difference, save the Outsiders making some rather interesting new enemies.  I also have to say that Ra’s and Vandal Savage were given some rather cliche lines during the fight scene.

This is Lee Garbett’s last issue on the Outsiders and he turns in some very nice work throughout this issue.  My hat’s off to the art as a whole though in making for an interesting fight scene towards the end of the story.  It’s difficult to cram so many different powers and characters into a scene and yet they did it well.

Overall, this issue could have used some work.  There was just too much going on in this storyline, that while interesting, was handled a bit clumsily.  The characterization was great though, as was the artwork.
