Where To Start Reading: Wolverine

Where To Start Reading Wolverine

Our “Where to Start” articles act as a guide, giving you our best suggestions on where to start on a certain character or creators work. Every article lists several books, each in the character’s or creator’s chronological order despite it’s publication date (so the first choice is at the beginning of a characters career, the last is the furthest along). While in order each book was specifically picked as a good individual starting point; so feel free to start at the beginning, in the middle, or towards the end if you want to get caught up quickly. And if you have any more suggestions or questions just leave a comment.

X-Factor #217 Review

X-Factor #217

X-Factor try to stop J. Jonah Jameson’s assassination. Today I will be reviewing X-Factor #217. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

So let’s talk about the book. (Since I missed reviewing X-Factor #216 due to having over a dozen other books to review, I’ll cover both issues here.) In #216, Jameson hires X-Factor to find the murderer of an old fiend of his. Layla warns Rahne that she will tolerate no more lies from her. Meanwhile, Ballistique wakes an old acquaintance of hers, Rococo, from the fake life she was living and the two decide to head to NY and meet up with a third woman to kill Jameson. In this issue, X-Factor, using Longshot’s powers, get an ID on the killer, Ballistique, and send the info to their teammates who are protecting Jameson. Meanwhile, Rococo and Ballistique prepare to kill Jameson as he is breaking up a protest. When Strong Guy gets in their way, Ballitique uses her powers on him and shoots him in the chest. As he falls, Rococo prepares to sniper Jameson from a nearby roof where she just took out the Black Cat, who was also protecting Jemeson. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. First off, these last two issues have had some incredible art. The women look hot. (Especially Monet and Felicia.) The action is large. The Spider-Man cameo last issue was well played as is the Black Cat cameo this issue. Peter David has a great touch with sarcastic characters and no one is more sarcastic than the old Web-Head. His exchange with Monet last issue was priceless. This issue, all of the sarcasm belongs to Jameson. Prejudice is a very touchy subject but Mr. David assaults it in full force and really puts the issues in your face. While this is not typical comic book fare, it is a very important social subject that affects all of us. It deserves to be addressed, especially in today’s times. What I was not at all happy with was the Longshot/Shatterstar tease. No offense but I believe we already established that the two are father and son with Dazzler as the mother. If that isn’t the case, then please either tell us the truth or stop the games. This is now a continuity thing and I really hate when something established gets retconned out of existence. I love Ballistique and Rococo. Its nice to see female assassins. They’re sarcastic and violent and that’s the perfect assassin traits. I hope they don’t kill Strong Guy. He’s one of the few well written comedic characters in comics and if he goes, I’ll be upset. Also, what’s the deal with no Layla this issue? Where’s my favorite gal? Overall, I am definitely enjoying this story arc. Keep up the awesome work. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
