Hellraiser #1 Review
Hellraiser #1
Clive Barker’s greatest horror franchise returns to comics. Today I will be reviewing Hellraiser #1. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.
So let’s talk about the book. Pinhead is tired of his servitude and strikes a deal to become human by getting someone else to take his place. He will use his human servant and worshipper Samuel to put his plan into motion. Meanwhile, Kristy Cotton, the only person to ever escape Pinhead, is trying to live her life. That is, until Samuel puts an envelope into her mailbox. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. Hellraiser, in my opinion, is the greatest horror franchise ever created. Compared to Pinhead, the horror monsters known as Jason, Michael Myers, and Freddy Krueger all pale in comparison. Pinhead would wipe the floor with them. When I heard this comic was coming out, I nearly danced a jig. And boy did it deliver. Visually stunning is the only words that come to mind when looking through this book. Starting with that gorgeous cover with all of the sides to the Lament Configuration in the background. Amazing. The interiors were sweet as well. Lots of blood and gore, as you would expect but the characters looked amazing. The Cenobites were perfect. I loved the body organ and that splash with Pinhead in front of it was beautiful. Art alone is not my only praise. There was actually a pretty decent plot being set up in this issue. A plan is set in motion. A quest that has to be fulfilled. Pinhead needs a successor. My guess is that either Kristy Cotton or maybe Tiffany from the Hellbound movie will be that successor. It’s so nice that the comic references the movie. It makes me want to go watch both Hellraiser one and two again. (Do you think my wife will mind if my 3 and 7 year olds watch them with me? Kidding!!!!) I’m definitely looking forward to where this book will take us. As long as the visuals stay this good and the pace continues to be maintained, I’ll be there to enjoy it. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
