Crossed: Psychopath #4
So let’s talk about the book. Lorre tricks Amanda and Rick into finding the remains of Darwin and Claire and making them believe that it was the Crossed that killed them. Later, when they reach a farmhouse and relax for a bit, Lorre thinks that he made an emotional connection to Amanda. However, later that night, he catches Rick and Amanda having sex and he convinces himself that Amanda is innocent while Rick is forcing her into having sex with him. Fueling his derangement, he targets Rick as his next victim and imagines all of the sick and evil things he plans on doing to him. He also retells the story of how the Crossed killed the love of his life Lori. And that’s the book.
So let’s talk opinions. Oh my freaking lord. This is exactly what I have been waiting for. No holds barred blood and gore. No more leaving anything to the imagination. Just put the violence on the page and sit back to enjoy the carnage. I love the visual imagery this issue. The pool scene is both gross and demented on so many levels. In fact, every image of violence and gore this issue has levels of insanity layered into it. That last page was a little bit of an error/foreshadowing. Take a close look at the top panel. Lorre , when he is stabbing Rick through the neck, has the Crossed symbol on his face. Then, at the bottom, its gone. I’m guessing that this was done on purpose. Lorre has a very bad case of multiple personality disorder as well as a huge level of psychotic insanity. He only sees reality as he wants to see it. That, my friends, is the sure sign of a psychopath. (Hence the story title.) His multiple mood swings are being awesomely written. Still, on top of all his violent craziness, he is still a tactical mastermind. He really plans for everything. In a world where you are either Crossed, or not, Lorre manages to be both. He really is, perhaps, the most dangerous man on this earth right now. I was enthralled as the story was laid out. The plot moves along so nicely. Lorre wants revenge. That’s it. I really didn’t get that until now. He wants to kill the Crossed that killed his woman. (who he raped and tortured, but that’s another story) He is willing to use anyone and everyone to get his revenge. I have a feeling that Amanda will be doing some serious suffering by the end of this mini series when she eventually rejects Lorre and he goes batshit crazy on her. Lorre is beyond sick, but he is written so well this issue that he really jumps out into your head this issue. Even last issue, when he was raping and killing, he wasn’t as bad as this issue where he really is shown as two different individuals. This is an excellent piece of writing skill. I really enjoyed it and I can’t wait for the last two issues. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.
