Deadpool #53 Review

Deadpool #53

The serum worked. Deadpool is mortal. Time to die. Today I will be reviewing Deadpool #53. Please leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

Deadpool #53

So let’s talk about the book. Deadpool is now human, supposedly, after being stabbed with the serum by Bob. The one Wolverine was shot with didn’t work on him because the serum is solely generated to work on Deadpool. Too bad Bob made a deal with Tombstone to allow him to deliver the death blow to Deadpool and that isn’t what Deadpool wants. Now his actions might cause the death of Bob, because X-Force is pissed at being lied to and are gunning for Wade’s head. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. This issue was pointless, if you ask me. A whole issue of explaining what happened in the last three issues. That’s a waste of space and money. We could have used this issue to sum up and end the story arc but no, we have to drag it out for another issue. What exactly was revealed this issue? Bob is the ultimate fool for trusting Deadpool. Now Wade must choose between his desires and the life of his only friend. OK. Did we need an entire issue to say that? Could have done it in three pages if you ask me. Then use the rest of the book to resolve the arc. I really wish that the writers of today would learn to do one or two issue story arcs like comics of the past. Those were worth the money. Today, we pay too much money for no story. This issue had nothing at all. No plot progression. No humor. No inner monologueing. No action. Nothing even remotely Deadpoolish. A complete fail. Only the art was nice. Very animeish. Not too detailed but clean, simple and to the point. This book has slowly been going downhill, if you ask me, and this story arc is not helping it out of that ditch. Unless a drastic change happens soon, (like a new writer or a new direction) this potentially great character will fade out of notoriety. I pray that doesn’t happen. I pray next issue is amazing on all levels and restores my faith in this writer, because right now, I feel like quitting this title. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

You totally missed the point. Here’s another point of view to consider- http://xmanscomicblog.blogspot.com/2012/04/deadpool-53.html

Bear in mind that this is the next to last issue- the calm before the storm. This sets everything up.

I’m sorry but I think that issues where the entire thing can be summed up in 3 or four sentences is a waste. I spend enough money on comics to deserve getting something of value in each issue. There was Nothing of substance in this comic. No movement at all. So Deadpool got his way and is ready to die. But first he must weigh the life of his friend against his own desires. See. The whole issue in two sentences. A waste.

Deadpool has gotten his way. He is ready to die.

Now he’s starting to realize how selfish that is. This is actually a big turning point in this story.

To say that nothing happened during this issue is to only count physical movement.

I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree. I feel that the entire issue could have been easily summed up in three pages, leaving the other 19 for more story. To me, that’s wasteful stretching and lack of movement. However, that seems to be the MO of all comics these days. I miss the days of two issue story arcs. Writers actually had to write in those days.

I agree and disagree with both of you guys. This issue is set to be the calm before the storm, not necessarily the blowout. Deadpool has wanted to die for some time now because he believes he’s only capable of destruction no matter what he tries. This issue shows that even in death, he’s going to hurt the only person that’s really stuck by his side through everything. It didn’t take an entire issue to tell this, though.

The lack of inner monologue hi-jinks and hilarity are fine by me, as long as this is an isolated incident. This particular issue was meant to have a somber tone as Deadpool realizes that even in death, it’s not all fun and games.

I have been a comic collector and reader for 25 years. My major comic love is all things Marvel with the X-Men being at the top. I also dabble in anything and everything that catches my eye. Guess that makes me the "all over the place" reviewer. A title which I claim with pride. I am a happily married man of almost 10 years living in Brooklyn, NY with my wife and two amazing boys. I hope you enjoy my opinions and I look forward to reading and responding to any comments or criticisms.
