The Boys #66 Review

The massacre is over. Vengeance has been achieved. Time to wind it down with one final Boys tale. Today I will be reviewing The Boys #66. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

The Boys #66

So let’s talk about the book. Butcher heads to Russia and confronts and kills Vasilly, his old friend and another supe. He then returns to the USA where the rest of the team is waiting for him. Hughie and the others want to tell Butcher to disband the team since most of the supes are dead and there is no reason for the boys to exist anymore. Butcher beats them to the punch by giving them three months off to take care of personal business. He also stirs up some dissension among the team with his usual cunning skills making Hughie look like an ass. Starlight also decides to leave, which Hughie takes badly. He returns home to his apartment where he slumps down to sulk all alone. Meanwhile, Vought Executive and his assistant plan their next move. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. This issue, other than the opening few pages, was a little bit on the slow side. Not much happening. Butcher obviously has an agenda. Like I said in my last review, eliminating the remaining supes is definitely part of it. However, when that job is done, what then? As many fans have suggested, and I agree, the next logical step would be to eliminate the Boys as well. What kind of final battle will that be? Will we actually get to see it for once? I sure hope so. In any case, at least we can get some closure on any hanging plot threads over the next few issues and hopefully get a huge finale. Maybe a showdown between Butcher and Hughie as this entire series has been built around that concept. Its all about the transformation of a nice mild mannered man into a potential monster. So far, Hughie has resisted the dark side, only turning for a second when he killed A-Train. But if he is forced to possibly watch his friends and girlfriend get killed, then the monster may come out and I think that is what Butcher wants. I think he wants Hughie to kill him. As some sort of penance for what he has done and made Hughie do. There really wasn’t much else going on this issue. The art was great once again. A good set up to the last Boys story. I hope Garth ends it well. That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

I have been a comic collector and reader for 25 years. My major comic love is all things Marvel with the X-Men being at the top. I also dabble in anything and everything that catches my eye. Guess that makes me the "all over the place" reviewer. A title which I claim with pride. I am a happily married man of almost 10 years living in Brooklyn, NY with my wife and two amazing boys. I hope you enjoy my opinions and I look forward to reading and responding to any comments or criticisms.
