Uncanny X-Force #25 Review

Uncanny X-Force #25

A new story arc begins as an old enemy of Logan returns but in a totally new way. Today I will be reviewing Uncanny X-Force #25. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think.

Uncanny X-Force #25

So let’s talk about the book. But first, a quick recap of issue #24, which I did not get a chance to review because it aggravated me to such an extent, I almost threw it out after reading it. AOA Iceman is having a hooker party and X-Force decides to crash it. After beating up Deadpool and eliminating Wolverine, he faces AOA Nightcrawler who manages to port him to a location where his ice powers don’t work. Nightcrawler then kicks his ass and kills him. Also, Betsy sleeps with Fantomex. Onto this issue. Sabretooth is scouting out Logan’s School to verify that Genesis is Apocalypse. Deadpool is sent on a recon mission. While infiltrating the enemy’s base, he is ambushed. Wolverine, who is tracking him with Nightcrawler, notices and they call the team together to go rescue him. Too bad Psylocke quits, after having a one night stand with Fantomex, and not feeling anything. Fantomex also decides to leave for reasons of his own. With no other options, the last two members head to the enemy location and port in looking for battle. They are not disappointed as an army of assassins attack them. They manage to fight them off, but are ambushed by the same people that ambushed Deadpool, the Omega Clan, who are the children of Omega Red. We also get two (I think) reprints of a solo Wolverine and a solo Deadpool story. And that’s the book.

So let’s talk opinions. Last issue was the biggest freaking insult I have had in a long time. This was such bullcrap that it made other crap look heavenly. What the hell was that horrible misrepresentation of Iceman’s powers. This was the character that was making multiple giant icebergs of himself to fight off the entire X-Force team during the Dark Angel saga. In the issue itself, he made hundreds of dupes to do battle. Yet AOA Nightcrawler was suddenly able to not only figure out who the main Iceman was, but he was able to port him to a “convenient” location where his powers didn’t work. Yet he was still able to maintain his ice form in the final battle. Utter crap. If you’re going to make a character a god, don’t make him a peasant ten seconds later because you find it convenient. It now completely invalidates everything the character has done before. Why didn’t Nightcrawler do the same think when they were fighting Apocalypse? Inconsistencies like these make readers that actually care pissed off. I know I was. (But enough on that, let’s move on) This issue was actually very good. I definitely enjoyed the growth on every character. I’m very happy that Mr. Remender is paying attention to continuity by using the newly humanized Deadpool. He is also finally doing some more inner monologuing for Wade and it’s not half bad. I love the new/revised enemy. Marvel refuses to let characters die and create new original ones, but this improved version of the original is pretty cool. I like how each member of the Omega Clan’s tentacles has a different ability. It makes them much more dangerous. Deadpool is going to have to do some quick thinking to save his teammates. Unless, Psylocke returns in the nick of time to do the saving herself. Speaking of Psylocke, how much shit has Remender put her through? He really must not like her. He’s cost her Warren, her new love, her emotions, her sense of purpose, and her brother. Now he’s angling for her to lose her friends. That’s a lot of pain all heaped onto one person’s head. I’m sure she’ll be back on the team soon, but I think she needs to catch a break. Just saying. At least the art is back to some semblance of normalcy instead of the splattered vomit images from the last story arc. Thank god Marvel got that right. The action and layouts were pretty nice as well as the facial expressions. Nice backgrounds too. Overall, a great start to a new story arc. I pray it continues and I can put the last few horrible disgusting issues out of my mind and into the land of obscurity where they belong.  That’s my opinion folks. Take it or leave it.

I have been a comic collector and reader for 25 years. My major comic love is all things Marvel with the X-Men being at the top. I also dabble in anything and everything that catches my eye. Guess that makes me the "all over the place" reviewer. A title which I claim with pride. I am a happily married man of almost 10 years living in Brooklyn, NY with my wife and two amazing boys. I hope you enjoy my opinions and I look forward to reading and responding to any comments or criticisms.
