Invincible Iron Man #525 Review

Invincible Iron Man #525

The Invincible Iron Man rallies his troops against the Mandarin!

Invincible Iron Man #525

Iron Man, Ezekiel Stane, Blizzard, Living Laser, and Whirlwind make their move against the Mandarin’s army.  As they make their surgical strikes against their captor, Pepper Potts arrive at the home of James Rhodes’ mother to deliver a message to him despite her insistence that he is in fact dead.  The note tells Rhodey to meet her on a boat headed to Mandarin City.  As Tony and Stane are being overwhelmed by Mandarin, the villain’s drill begins digging into the Earth’s core to destroy the planet.  On that boat headed to Mandarin City, Pepper rallies the Triumph Division and the Dynasty to come to Tony’s rescue!

Overall, this has been a really cool story.  It’s shown off what this series could be when balanced properly.  It gives Tony a chance to scheme his way out of a seemingly unbeatable situation, but it has also been marching toward a huge battle against Iron Man’s greatest enemy.  It should be stated that this issue isn’t about the plot so much as much as it is to set up the next stage of the story which is the battle.  The plot has progressed as far as it can so now it’s time for Tony to ruin the Mandarin’s big plan.  That being said, this issue is still an excellent read.

It’s also appropriate that Stark is fighting alongside some of his other long time foes.  It’s hard to say it’s going to last, but it’s been great to see him put aside long running rivalry to fight the greater problem – the Mandarin.  I am still a little confused exactly why Rhodey had to fake his death, but there’s still likely an explanation forthcoming.  Overall, this has been a very satisfying arc with great scripts from Matt Fraction and the great, high quality art from Salvador Larroca.  It’s hard to think any Iron Man fan would be disappointed by the story.

A COMIC BOOK BLOG RATING

Pros Cons
Fast paced and exciting. Great lead up to the inevitable showdown between Iron Man and Mandarin. Very little. Still looking for the explanation for such a big deal having Rhodey fake his death.

He had to fake his death so Marvel could sell more comics and so that the story could be more intense.
