No Star Wars Comics From Dark Horse After 2013? Looks Like It.

Dark Horse To Lose Star Wars Comics In 2013?

Since the Disney/Star Wars purchase in October comic fans have wondered what it might mean for Dark Horse and their line of Star Wars comics? Well, it looks like we have our answer…

Blue Sky Disney is hearing that…

no new contracts will be given to Dark Horse after the current ones expire. So all new projects after 2013 will be handled internally by Marvel.

It’s way to early to know if Marvel plans to fold Star Wars comics into their regular line up or will create something that keeps them separate, maybe something similar to their Icon imprint. And it’s too early to make any assumptions on whether they’ll continue any series started at Dark Horse or even begin publishing Star Wars comics right away.

But we are hearing that 2013 might be it for Dark Horse and Star Wars.

As we pointed out earlier it took about two to two and half years from the Disney/Marvel purchase date for Marvel to publish it’s first Disney comic. Maybe a good indicator, maybe not.

Blue Sky Disney also says…

the stories that Dark Horse have coming down the pipeline will be the last. And you can expect anything new from Marvel dealing with Star Wars to arrive around 2015.

Dark Horse has several Star Wars series being published right now and a pretty big one by Brain Wood coming in 2013 (which we previewed).

And not an assumption, but something interesting – Brain Wood currently works for Marvel, maybe that helps make this upcoming Star Wars ongoing transition a little smoother and quicker. Only time will tell.

Oh, I hope there will still be Star Wars. I love it much.

  2. TomH says:

Why does Disney want to have NO Star Wars comics for a year? Where’s the possible profit in that? At least they get some money from Dark Horse’s licensing. This is a lose-lose scenario.
